A first for Africa
In October 2015, South Africa will become the sixth country, and the first in Africa, to host the International Renewable Energy Conference (IREC).
Convened by the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21), IREC is a high-level political conference series hosted by a national government. Previous hosts include: Bonn, Germany (2004), Beijing, China (2005), Washington, USA (2008), Dehli, India (2010), Abu Dhabi, UAE (2013).
Why this event?
SAIREC 2015 provides a global platform for government ministers, high-level decision makers, experts, specialists and thought leaders, as well as private sector players and civil society, to discuss and exchange their vision, experiences and solutions to accelerate the global scale-up of renewable energy. Over the past decade these conferences have provided the motivation for several momentous initiatives.
RE-energising Africa
Hosted by the South African Department of Energy together with the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI), under the theme RE-energising Africa, SAIREC will demonstrate why Africa is the business destination for the renewables energy sector given its current growth trajectory and need for investment in clean energy to underpin sustainable economic growth.
