Renewable Energy Technologies and Innovations: Empowering women, improving their lives and promoting gender equality
Call for Technologies and Innovations
UN Women South Africa Multi Country Office, in partnership with Department of Energy and the United Nations Industrial development Organisation (UNIDO), is inviting submissions of renewable energy technologies and innovations. The RE project aims to promote technologies that have a positive impact on women’s lives, especially those technologies that will improve the living conditions of rural and peri-urban women and their households.
Additional support will be provided to nominees to further develop their products for the purpose of sharing, incubating and scaling up. The successful nominees will be invited to participate in the exhibition as well as a policy dialogue with the subject: “Renewable Energy Technologies: Improving Women’s Lives”, which will be held during the South African International Renewable Energy Conference, sairec.org.za , from 4-7 October, in Cape Town, South Africa. The successful nominees will be awarded certificates of recognition during the conference. The event will target policy makers in government, United Nations agencies, parastatals, the private sector and civil society organisations.
To submit your idea, kindly download, fill out and submit the entry form attached, via email to by midnight on Wednesday, 23 September 2015, or by post to UN Women at: UN WOMEN South Africa Multi-Country Office, 351 Francis Baard Street, Metro Park Building, Pretoria, 0001. You may also drop off the forms by hand at the building.
● The selection process will be carried out by an independent panel of technical experts.
● The successful nominees will be advised by 25 September 2015 and will be expected to participate in the planned exhibition as well as the award giving ceremony from 4-7 October 2015.
● In order to achieve the RE scaling up objective as well as technology innovation growth and sustainability objectives, the successful nominees will participate in the RE Technology incubation and be supported to scale up the programme.
● The successful technologies will also be branded as SAIREC legacy technology and Innovative projects.
